Casa Jacinta
Casa Jacinta is located in
Leon, Nicaragua, an hour away from the capital city
of Managua. It is “home” to
over 40 children, mostly boys. Many of the children
lived on the streets or came from families where there
was abuse, poverty and
neglect. Some of the children have been referred by “La
Familia”, Nicaragua’s Child Protective Services
Agency. The children’s ages range from 6-16 years old.
Casa
Jacinta is a large home with a spacious yard. It was
donated to the Archbishop of Leon in 1999 and is
managed by Catholic
nuns and a lay staff. The children attend a public
elementary school is located next to the home.
NCFC's goal at Casa Jacinta: to help these children
become self-sustaining and healthy individuals.
Some of Casa Jacinta's adolescent boys have "graduated” and
are now learning trades, finishing their schooling
at Hogar San Cristobal in Managua. The girls are starting high
school
at
a residential
high school in Diriamba.
