Rural Community of El Malinche
NCFC is helping children in a poor rural community outside of
Leon whose families were displaced due to Hurricane Mitch several
years ago. In 2006, the community moved from homes made of plastic
tarps and dirt floors into modest structures paid by the municipal
government. The community lacks both running water and electricity.
NCFC supports El Malinche with the following:
• Built two potable water wells. The first well was needed
to provide water to mix the construction material to
build the new homes.
• "Pre Escolar Abuelita Carmen” - Twenty-two children
attend the pre-school located in one of the new homes.
They learn basic skills necessary to move on to a nearby elementary
school.
• In 2005, NCFC supplied the new school with furniture
and educational materials.
• NCFC pays for monthly medical visits, medication and
nutritious snacks. The school is also a resource for the children's
health cares needs.
• In 2006, NCFC funded construction of a brick wood oven
that will be used to bake bread for the children and sell at
local markets. This will help the families improve the quality
of life for their children.
